Affordable Care Act Making a Difference for Missourians

JEFFERSON CITY — Sen. Joseph Keaveny, D-St. Louis, is encouraged to see new data during the first three months of open enrollment for the Affordable Care Act shows Missourians had increased access to insurance coverage and began to sign up.

Nationwide, nearly 2.2 million Americans signed up for a plan from Oct. 12 - Dec. 28, 2013. During that same time, 33,138 Missourians also enrolled.

“The news of increased enrollment is very encouraging,” said Sen. Keaveny. “I am hopeful that more Missourians will continue to enroll in the coming days and weeks. I encourage individuals who have questions to contact my office so we can put you in touch with the right people who will help you sign up for a health care plan.”

Enrollment in the offered marketplace plans are expected to continue to grow as 63 percent of those who still do not have health insurance say they do plan to enroll for health insurance coverage this year. Sixty-three percent of adults who are eligible for Medicaid or a qualified health care plan say they plan to also look to the marketplace when shopping for coverage.

Enrollment in plans more than tripled from October to December. Enrollment numbers are still increasing as open enrollment continues through March 31. For coverage starting March 1, you must be enrolled by Feb. 15. Visit www.healthcare.gov for more information.
